Even More Hypocrisy... By TITVS-ADVXAS

Christians all around the world are observing Good Friday, the commemoration of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary. Since the early church this day has been commemorated by fasting and penance. Some predominantly Christian countries give workers the day or afternoon off so they can observe the death of Jesus, which many denominations believe happened at 3 p.m. In the Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Anglican denominations, liturgical services often include veneration of the cross and the Passion narrative from the Gospel of St. John. Other types of observances include prayer and meditation at the Stations of the Cross, which are a succession of 14 images, usually on wooden crosses that depict the crucifixion of Christ and the events leading up to it. Many churches hold special services and some sponsor re-enactments of Jesus' journey to his death on the cross on Good Friday. Millions of Christians make a pilgrimage to Jerusalem every year for a procession along the "Via Dolorosa" -- or "way of suffering" -- which tradition holds is the path Jesus walked to the hill where he was crucified. Perhaps the most notoriously violent re-enactment occurs in the Philippines, where this year dozens of Catholics had themselves nailed to crosses, and scores more whipped their backs to a bloody pulp in an act of devotion frowned upon by the Catholic Church.
AGAIN WHY IS THERE NO PUBLIC COMMEMORATION OF THE CRUCIFIXION ANYWHERE IN THE UK?
As I've already pointed out, The Church can whinge about a Soccer game to be played on Easter Sunday, The day when in religion, Jesus rose from the dead. But The Church is publicly silent when it comes to shouting or marching. Are they ashamed of themselves? or are they running scared from The Islamic Hordes? Today in countless Catholic countries around the world, but not in western Europe, crosses are being dragged by men enacting the crucifixion, men who are proud of their religion.
Why not The Church of England? I reiterate. RIP Christianity!

Ecclesiastic Hypocrisy... Again By TITVS ADVXAS

Grumblings and rumblings from The Church, again, as another Premier League football match is set to play at 2PM on Easter Sunday at Villa Park in Birmingham.

Now I've set out my stall before. I am not a Christian, But I do support movements that preserve our Sunday traditions. I am against widescale Sunday trading, and I am certainly against this move by Aston Villa to again play on the most important day in The Christian Calendar.

Aston Villa and Everton, it seems, are merely pawns of the hold that Sky television and Setanta clearly possess over rescheduling of matches for live TV coverage.

So where is the hypocrisy then?

In December 2008, Greenwood Junior School in Nottingham cancelled their annual nativity play, because it clashed with The Muslim Festival of Eid which was described as 'more important' to its pupils. Last week, The Meersbrook Bank Primary School in Sheffield cancelled its annual Easter Bonnet parade. The school announced that the decision had absolutely nothing to do with the very high proportion of Muslim pupils at the school.

The hypocrisy is the deafening silence from the church. In previous blog on Sunday Trading I blamed the weakness of The Church for the introduction of widescale Sunday trading.

If The Church can be so outspoken about one game of football, yet be so emaciated over the shadowing of Christian festivals by fear of upsetting the Muslim populous, then there is no hope for The Church of England.

RIP Christianity

'Ere You're 'Avin' A Larf! by TITVS ADVXAS

Entertainment history is full of characters given names to describe or embarrass themselves. One of the earlists I can recall is that of Mrs Malaprop from the eighteenth century Sheridan play, The Rivals. More up to date is an urban legend, which says sexually suggestive names such as Master Bates (masturbates), Seaman Staines (semen stains), and Roger the Cabin Boy (meaning to have sex with) were given to characters from 50s childrens cartoon pirate, Captain Pugwash. There is also The Goon Show (50s and 60s) and a myriad of documented characters ascribed with double entendresque names such as Private Parts and Hugh Jampton. Now fast forward 40 years to the politically correct days of new, The 2000s or The Norties, where nothing incorrect may be said about anyone or anything.
Then we have The BBC cbeebies channel and 'In The Night Garden', stablemate of 'Balamory'.
Characters include Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka, The three Tombliboos, The Pontipines (red) and Wottingers (blue), The Haahoos, The Tittifers, The Ninky Nonk and The Pinky Ponk. The target audience is aged 1 to 6.
All innocent it seems, until the target audience, who are at differing stages of learning to speak, start to say the character's names. Then there's uproar as at least three of these innocently sounding characters more often than not are said sounding like racist slurs by the eager toddlers. As we hear them say words banned on Television, we have to stifle our laughs. such obscenities from children so young, unwittingly spoken, and repeated after they see us smile.
Surely The BBC has received complaints about this? Or the race relations board? Or perhaps there is just some high ranking executive is sitting at the desk of a highly paid perk filled job, chuckling like we did as youngsters listening to Bloodnock.

What's The Story In Balamory By TITVS ADVXAS

What indeed IS the story in Balamory?

Produced between 2000 and 2005, but still broadcast daily on BBC channels BBC1, BBC2 and CBEEBIES, and aimed at viewers aged six and under, this show was based in a nursery school with the main character Miss Hoolie the nursery teacher. Balamory itself was supposedly based upon the quiet Scottish Fishing hamlet of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, but the cast of Balamory (as well as the children attending Balamory Nursery) come from a broad range of ethnic backgrounds, giving the place a somewhat cosmopolitan feel. The main 8 characters, incidentally, have a 25% ethnic/non-ethnic proportion (see photo), and of the 5 Children visiting Miss Hoolie’s Nursery each episode the proportion can vary from 20% ethnic proportion (1 in 5) to 100% (5 in 5), in each and every episode but NEVER zero (0/5). This contrasts sharply with ethnicity figures from the Isle of Mull (where Balamory was filmed), which, according to the 2001 census, suggest that ethnic minorities only make up a meagre 0.35% of the actual population i.e. 10 people out of a total population of slightly under 3000. In some episodes where Josie Jump AND Spencer appear along with 5 ethnic children, that would be 70% of the ethnic population of the entire region in one show AND one must assume therefore since there are only 3 other ethnic people left, that some of those 5 children are either from one parent families or are indeed orphans! Is this 'overcompensation of ethnicity' where it doesn’t exist part of The BBC's remit? Or would The BBC be overwhelmed with tens of thousands of complaints* from Ethnic minorities who claimed that they weren't represented in the show?
Furthermore the proposed introduction of a naughty character "Millie Mischief" was cancelled as (according to different Google sources) politically correct BBC chiefs were worried that the ethnicity of Miss Mischief would create further discontent with all viewers or that the 'bad' character would give children viewing 'a bad influence'.

And I always thought that The BBC’s duty was to portray and report real life!
(If that were so, however, Millie Mischief would then be a stereotypical drug dealing crack addict who mugged people or who unsafely prostituted herself to feed her habit and PC Plum would of course oust Miss Hoolie THE main character of the newly named CSI:Balamory)
Incidentally, the BBC cancelled the show in 2005. They cited that they wanted to experiment and create more new programme ideas. The production of a similar show 'Me Too' replaced Balamory, being based with a Child minder called Nanny Murray, instead of in a nursery school, this show has similar question marks over the same issues as Balamory

(*An example figure of 20,000 complainants would, of course, be made up of 5 people who actually saw the show and 19,995 who didn’t see the show, but complained because we have freedom of expression in The UK)
